Correlazione tra pH dei prodotti sbiancanti e danni sullo smalto post-sbiancamento
OBJECTIVES
For many years, dental bleaching and its possible adverse effects on enamel have been discussed. In literature there are many articles with conflicting conclusions. Many studies are limited in the in vitro methods used which do not accurately reflect the in vivo situations, other studies consider a whitening gel application timing which is very far from in vivo clinical indications while some do not include a control group. The aim of this work is to investigate which factors can produce adverse effects on enamel after bleaching.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
Through an analysis of the literature we investigated possible enamel damages after bleaching and the reasons about that.
RESULTS
Teeth bleached with acid pH gel show damages on enamel surface, teeth bleached with neutral or basic pH gel have not been damaged.
CONCLUSIONS
Possible post-whitening damages on enamel surface can be due to acid pH whitening gels. It is recommended to use neutral or basic pH gel.
